AfterWe Privacy Policy

1. What We Collect

To provide hangout recording and recap features, AfterWe collects the following information:

  • Friend information: names, avatar photos, and up to 3 reference photos for AI facial recognition
  • Hangout photos: The app requests camera access for taking photos and full photo library access to automatically retrieve photos taken during hangout periods
  • Hangout time and participant records
  • Location information: During hangouts, your location (latitude and longitude) is recorded every 5 minutes to display hangout locations on the memory map. Locations are converted to place names and addresses.
  • Apple account information: If you use Sign in with Apple, we collect your name and email address, securely stored in the device Keychain

2. How We Use Your Data

Photos are sent to AI for analysis to generate hangout recaps. Specifically, the following data is sent to AI:

  • Hangout photos (compressed)
  • Friend names and AI recognition reference photos
  • Hangout location names and addresses (precise coordinates are not sent)
  • Historical hangout recap content (for generating more personalized summaries)
  • Friends' personality tags and memories (generated by previous AI analysis)

AI service providers:

  • China: Qwen (Alibaba Cloud)
  • Elsewhere: OpenAI

API requests are proxied through Cloudflare Workers and do not directly expose API keys.

3. Camera & Photo Library

  • The app requests camera permission for taking photos during hangouts
  • The app requests full photo library access to read photos taken during hangouts and save new photos
  • You can revoke these permissions at any time in iOS Settings

4. Location Information

  • The app requests "Always" location permission to continuously record your location during hangouts
  • Location data is collected every 5 minutes to determine the primary hangout location
  • Locations are converted to place names and addresses via Apple's geocoder
  • Location data is stored only on your device locally (and iCloud, if sync is enabled)
  • Location data is not sent to AI (only place names are sent, not coordinates)
  • You can revoke location permission at any time in iOS Settings

5. Data Storage

  • All data is stored locally on your device
  • If iCloud sync is enabled, the following data is synced to your private iCloud account: hangout records (including photos and locations), friend list, and user profile
  • Photos sent to AI are only used for instant analysis and are not stored by AI service providers
  • Apple Sign-in information is stored in the device Keychain (encrypted)

7. Children's Privacy

  • This app is not intended for children under 13 years of age
  • We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13
  • If we discover that we have inadvertently collected data from a child, we will delete it immediately

8. Data Retention

  • Your data is retained until you actively delete it in Settings
  • Photos sent to AI are only used for instant analysis and are not retained after processing
  • After deleting your account or resetting data, local data is permanently erased
  • Data in iCloud will be cleared when you turn off sync or delete it

9. Tracking & Analytics

  • This app does not use any third-party analytics or advertising tracking SDKs
  • This app does not collect the device advertising identifier (IDFA)
  • This app does not track your activity across other apps or websites

10. Your Rights

  • You can delete all data anytime in Settings
  • Once deleted, all local data is permanently erased

11. Privacy Policy Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If there are significant changes, we will notify you within the app. Continued use of the app indicates your acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.
